Our Tradition

It has been more than 65 years since Dr. George G. Durst, Sr. opened his family practice in a modest white cottage on Sullivan’s Island. George Sr. was known for his gracious bedside manner and his devotion to family, patients, and the community he loved. As his practice grew, he became one of the area’s most-respected physicians, educators and civic leaders. Through his career, he put the wellbeing of his patients above all – always making time to get to know the person behind the symptoms.

We are now in our third generation of Durst physicians. Father/daughter team, Dr. George G. Durst, Jr. and Dr. Kay H. Durst, have grown Durst Family Medicine to include Dr. Rochelle Rutledge and Colleen Makley Jones, PA. Our entire staff is honored to carry on George Sr.’s tradition of providing high-quality, personalized and comprehensive care to our neighbors of all ages.
